Post: Uninstalling Service Pack 3
Posted by bev on 9/07/08
daughter inadvertently installed this Service Pack 3 (I
forgot to warn her not to)
Now when the laptop boots up, she gets the blue screen of
death with a warning to back up files immediately. Fatal
System failure is imminent. Replace hard drive soon as
possible. Press F1 to continue. When she does that, the
laptop (Acer Aspire with XP home on it) goes right into disk
check. If she skips that computer boots up normally.
BUT some of the previously installed programs are not
working right anymore.
I attempted a system restore and the laptop won't let me do
that either now.
In the add/remove programs thingy I can see SP 3 there with
a remove option. Is it safe to remove it that way, or am I
just going to open a new can of worms?
I've run the antivirus, disc clean up and anti spy and
malware programs already.
And she just told me of a new message regarding the firewall
not being turned on.
HELP!!!!!
