Secondary social studies is a tough area in which to find a
job. California and New York are going to be hard to find a
job, especially if you are coming form out of state since you
will need to take tests and addition workshops or classes to
get a license or cert in those states. (As they tell us here
at BC, it is the degree that is reciprocal not the licence or
cert.) If you are not against starting out in a rough area, I
would look into urban or rural areas in the Middle Atlantic
area (MD, DC, DE, and VA)or in the Southeast. I have also
heard that there a lot of jobs in TX, but again you will need
to take new certification tests to get a license to teach in
a public school.
If you would consider teaching in an independent (private)
school, I would also use a placement agency like Carney
Sandoe, Southern Teachers Agency, or the Education Group.
Their clients are the schools, so the service is free for the
teachers. You will have somewhat of an upperhand since you
will be certified and will have an even better chance if you
have a masters. Also, check out the postings on NAIS.org.
Good luck.
