He told me he has quit smoking pot and wants to be successful in life but has no idea about what to do and if he can make it at college. He chose not to go after graduation and has worked at minimum wage jobs. The past several weeks he has been despondent, crying at times, isolating more than usual, and very serious. He says he can not make even a simple decision. He has no affect. I am positive he is clinically depressed and have offered to take him to the emergency room. He just got on a health plan when he was briefly unemployed and if he is going to keep this latest temporary job, he will lose it. He is going to work each day but does not know if he can keep the job. He is losing alot of weight (some of it due to the job, too). Some people say he is just facing reality, but I know it's more than the blues. He says he is not going to hurt himself. I gave him a depression screening quiz to prove that he was depressed, and he answered all but 1 or 2 of the questions positively that point to depression. My heart is breaking for him.
