Our 5th to 6th transition program spans several months. I
meet with every parent and student approx. 200 students. To
discuss ms, how to read a schedule, register for specials,
while the appointment only lasts 15-20 min it has proven to
be very beneficial! We then bring the elementary students
to the middle school for a visit. The students rotate
through 3 different activities. They go on tours with
current 6th grade students, meet with our principals, I do
team building activities with them. We hear the band
perform and then the eat lunch in our cafeteria. The
elementary counselors also do some activities with locks.
We hold a meet the teacher open house for 6th graders the
Thursday evening before school starts. Parents and students
meet key office personel and their team of teachers. This
takes alot of organization and cooperation between buildings
and staff but is well worth it!
