I agree thiis is discouraging. It appears to me that schools are trying to save money and the school counselor jobs are on the decline. I would say one thing a social worker lacks is knowing how schools run. Teachers in my area appreciate a school counselor who was previously a teacher and understands what it's like to run a classroom with 25 children who all have different needs. The social workers I have seen are competent, but do not understand the challenges in the education system. I hope this is helpful. I,too, am concerned about the future of the school counselor.
