    Post: Guidance Counselor Confidentiality?

    Posted by perplexed on 6/30/08

This question is specific to New York:

Is a guidance counselor able to guarantee the same
confidentiality that a social worker can? There has been
some debate as of late. Because my license is not in
guidance, I am unaware of the answer.

I read some legal mumbo jumbo stating that, if subpoenaed,
a guidance counselor is not covered the same way that a
psychologist, social worker, or licensed mental health
    counselor are.

So, the question is: Is a guidance counselor able to keep
information shared by a student confidential? Onbiously, I
    am not questioning mandated reporting.
