I'll try to answer some of your questions:
- There is no daily schedule in school counseling, every day
is different and you can't really have a plan of what happens
when.
- Favorite part of the job is counseling students on post-
secondary planning. Least favorite part is registering new
students.
- Main duties are individual counseling, graduation tracking,
post-secondary planning, organizing resources for parents and
students, testing, crisis counseling, participating in IEP's,
beavior plans, etc. For the most part I agree with them,
except for the testing, but I wish we had more time to meet
with students and be proactive instead of responsive.
- I work at a high school, grades 9-12. The school has 2100
students, I have about 420 on my caseload and we have 5
counselors.
- I don't have lunch duty, but we do rotate parking lot duty
for a week...and we also have to monitor the halls during
Study Hall on Wednesdays for an hour.
Hope this helps!
