Job openings for counselors are few and far between, at least
where I live (NY). Right now, NYC has a hiring freeze, and
from what I understand other cities are in the same
(terrible) financial situation. Pay no attention to the OOH;
it couldn't predict the current economic crisis.
The Department of Defense (DOD) schools might be an option
for you, but I don't know what job opportunities look like at
this point. Constant moves will mean a constant job hunt.
It'll also affect your pension.
You might want to look into a degree in social work. An MSW
allows you to work in hospitals, agencies, schools, etc.,
whereas a school counseling degree chains you to a specific
state's school system. For someone that's going to be moving
frequently, flexibility is a good thing.
