I am hoping you all can help me. :) My 4th block children are racist. I've had to send two out of the class for being disrespectful to me - calling me a racist term. They did not think that calling me a "Cracker" was a racist comment. To me, it is very racist and unacceptable to refer to me than anything other than Mrs.Mylast name. They are also very disrespectful to my other students who simply look at them like they're crazy. I have called parents because of behavior and language (as well as the ISS). Parents are not very responsive, one mother hung up on me today. Has anyone else ever experienced this kind of racism by students? This is 8th grade. I plan to bring it up at my dept. meeting tomorrow and I really think it is something that should be addressed by the admin. I am almost certain that it is not isolated to my class. Any suggestions?
