    It's interesting - perhaps because I teach Language Arts but
    the word 'tome' to me isn't always a positive one by any means.
    I assumed when Tom deemed his posts a 'tome' that it was
    exactly a tongue in cheek reference and an attempt to warn
    readers that his post was a long one and rather an apology of
    sorts for the length of the post.
    I never thought he meant to toot a tome horn - that would be
    likely tooting a 'overly long piece of writing horn'.
    What other language could be used? I often write "I could write
    volumes on this and have" or "forgive me for climbing back up
    on the soapbox".
    This time forgive me for commenting -
