You intervene. Ask them to stop, whatever it is they are
doing, and then separate them and have a nice little chat with
them. It will likely be something silly - "He pushed me. He
called me a _____" Talk them through how else they could solve
the issue and if what they were about to do would likely get
them what they are looking for in life. Administration is real
big these days on having students reflect on their thoughts and
actions.
Personally, I think it is somewhat silly. Students at this age
are very selfish and impulsive. It takes time to work through
it and we can try to reason with them until the cows come home
and most of them will still be selfish and impulsive when we
are finished. My thoughts is simply to separate them, tell
them the consequences isn't worth what they are about to do and
to man up and go to class.
