Re: how to teach address??
Posted by Miss Taylor on 5/08/08

We just started working on our address last week and there are
a few things we do that really seem to help.

    1. At circle time, instead of putting their name cards down to
designate their spot, we are using their address. The kids
find their address, hand the label to the teacher who collects
them. Then once everyone has found theirs, I say something
like "Who lives at....?" or "Whose address is....." and the
kids raise their hands when it's their address.

    2. Each kid has their own cubby and I simply flipped the
baskets around and put their address on the one side and have
the address facing out instead of their names. The cubbies
still have the kids names, they are just facing the wall.

    3. By this point and time, I know all the kids addresses and
will call out their address instead of their names when lining
    up for lunch, playground, etc.

Most of my kids know their address by now. The only issue we
are having is some kids are next door neighbors and their
address is so close to another that they get confused, but we
are working on it and I'm confident they will have it down in
no time. Then we get to tackle phone numbers.
