Post: This is PreK not Kindergarten

Posted by Debbie on 5/15/08

Why is it that pre- k teachers can let one mom or other
person make us feel so insignificant ? Tomorrow my kiddos
are touring the kindergarten. One mom said she didnt think
she was sending her child this year. I know the theory
behind it all-- holding back. But, I just finished a Dial 3
assessment and he is above average. He is socially ready
and he is larger than most other kids his age. I think it
would be wrong to hold him back. She said it " wasnt just
for athletics". Why are we even thinking about that when he
is 5? Anyway, I am a state funded program and he can't come
to me next year if she holds him out. I said " I hope you
have a good place for him to be that is more than watching
TV." She replies" Yes, I do. The person he will go was a
teacher and she teaches a kindergarten curriculum." ugh...
Well.. is that appropriate for a child not in kindergarten?
If that is what you want , then why not send him? Then my
mind goes crazy.... was I not good enough to get him ready
because we learn DAP ? Anyway, I just needed to get that
out. I am not upset with the mom ( a teacher). I am upset
that I always let these conversations get to me.
