    If you still have colorful leaves in your area, you could have
    the children collect them. You'll need an iron, low ironing
    board, wax paper, and masking tape for their names. One at
    a time the parent and child lay the leaves on half of the wax
    paper,(about 3 ft long) then the parent folds it over the
    leaves. The child puts one arm behind his/her back and the
    other one on the handle of the iron. The parent puts his/her
    hand on top of the child's hand and they iron the two side of
    wax paper together. (Do not linger on one spot.) These are
    beautiful when hung in a window.

    You might want to give the parents the following handout to
    take home. When they are waiting for their turn to do the
    leaves, you could ask the parents to share their Thanksgiving
    or fall family traditions, i.e. getting together with
    relatives or going to the pumpkin patch. Encourage them to
    have their own traditions (see the article).
