Post: New Assistant needs advice
 Lisa Posted on 10/31/09
Hi, I just finished my first week as a preschool
assistant. I'm in training to be a teacher for this room
along with the current teacher after I get my degree in a
few months. There are 16 children 2.9-3.9 and most are
closer to 2.9. There are 3 boys who are already "labelled"
as the "bad ones". They do not listen or follow
directions. The teacher is very frustrated and
has "become" a yeller, which she never did until a month
ago when she her other assistant left and she has been
alone. I really want to help her anyway I can so she can
regain control of her classroom and enjoy her job again. I
have 3 children of my own and believe in possitive
discipline and I don't like to yell. When she sees
me "talking" to them after she has yelled at them, she
says, don't bother, just put him in the time out chair.
This doesn't sit well with me. I don't want to look like a
wimpy teacher though. Help!
