Post: Screenings at Enrollment

It's early but we are thinking about enrollment time next
year and ways to make our classrooms more balanced. One
thought was to complete some type of screening with each
child when their parent comes to complete the enrollment
paperwork. We could try to get an idea of their academic
and social levels. It would not be a precise or extremely
accurate representation of the child but it may give us a
little guidance.
Does anyone complete screenings like this and what do you
use?
I'm not talking about after school has started and you
already have your class. We want to know what level they
are before assigning the classes.
