Re: adding to comments of others

    1. Devise a pre-test that should become part of your post test.
This will be 1 part of your own self-measurement - are students
really learning what you've taught. The items should come from
your syllabus (which comes from the course objectives).
    2. No more than 4 objectives per unit, but really hammer those
objectives! The most important course objectives should be
    recycled and reviewed several times.
    3. No more than 2 grades per week (1 of those can be cumulative
homework and classwork), and the other one should probably have
a writing component. Otherwise, you'll quickly be buried in the
grading pile. Talk to the other teachers/coaches and to the
students to determine the best day for the writing assignment
(done in class). Otherwise, up to 1/2 the class will be missing
for practice or travel, and you'll be haunted by make-ups.
    4. Assume the students don't know how to take notes, to
critically read, or how to structure writing assignments. (Some
of them can, but everyone needs these items retaught.)
    5. Yes to teaching library skills. They like it, they need it,
    and it's easy for you.
