Look into some books by Jack Umstatter. My low level
seniors "liked" these (as much as seniors can like grammar
and parts of speech)--try Hooked on English. How about the
Find the Errors books? My seniors got a lot out of these,
too--I think it's the challenge of it when you tell
them "Okay, there are 16 errors on this page!" and they have
to find them.
Don't beat yourself up about using worksheets, either--after
we spent time going over the info in class and practicing
with the worksheets, almost all of my low level seniors
passed the language section of the test they needed in order
to be placed in technical college. They were really proud
of themselves, and so was I!
