I'd like us to read two novels that tell the story from different perspectives. My first choice would be Jane Eyre with Wide Sargasso Sea, but my students this year are significantly lower in reading levels than past years. I am considering literature circles by splitting the class into 2-3 groups with each group responsible for a pair of novels. My students with higher skills can tackle the tougher novels while I can provide more reading level appropriate books for my struggling readers. My question: Can you think of any other novel pairings? I'm drawing a blank! The novels do not necessarily need to have the same characters, but perhaps the same theme/historical context (i.e. WWII novel narrated by a Nazi solider versus Anne Frank's diary or North/South Coming of Age novels set during the Civil War).
