Post: how to plan my day better?

    Posted by Susan on 9/03/08

I'm sorry to keep asking this. Being new to 10th grade has
been a challenge so far. Anyway, I need some ideas on how
to plan my class time better. I'm in a private school,
where some of the upper level teachers have multiple
    grades. I teach a 7th/8th LA/SS and a 10th grader class.
The 10th graders come to me for 45 minutes/day. We have
started a novel already and write in journals, which is
going well. But, I don't like spending our whole class time
on just the novel. I feel as though I should be spending
time on other things, like vocabulary, writing, and
grammar, but not sure how to make it work. Also how much
homework should be given at the HS level? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
