    I also teach middle school. Here are my categories.

    Reading 20%
    Writing 20%
    Vocab 5%
    Assessments 10%
    Classwork/Homework 5%
    Participation/Conduct 10%
    Portfolio – Reading 7.5%
    Portfolio – Writing 7.5%
    Final Exam – Reading 7.5%
    Final Exam – Writing 7.5%
    TOTAL 100%
