Post: Balanced Literacy - Read Aloud

    Posted by Diana on 1/04/09

Does anyone teach balanced literacy at the high school
level? Read Alouds? If so, what and how do you tie it all
    in?
EXPLANATION I teach high school reading and I am inundated
with so much material, but nothing that it totally helpful
for the purpose of my students. The texts that I am
provided does nothing for simulating real world reading or
real reading situations (Major textbook is full of
excerpts from book like THE HEART OF DARKNESS) whereas I
am to teach reading strategies. Looking for a road map to
really help these kids pass the state standardized test.
