The instructor merely looked at the "grade" (which shows as a color
and a percentage) and took that grade at face value. That's not
enough work by the teacher.
TurnItIn indicates the source. That source would have been YOUR
name. Basically, it said that you did your own paper. The teacher
at that point should have printed out the one you submitted for the
course AND the "source" paper and asked you to explain. At that
point, you could have asked the other instructor to communicate the
issue, and the problem would be resolved completely.
It's software, and it is ALWAYS the responsibility for the
instructor to use it wisely.
Now, if a student submitted a paper to me that had clearly been
written for another class, the student should get a zero, but not
for plagiarism. The zero would come from "not on assignment."
I've given out that grade a few times too.
