I teach two elective classes of Spanish. Each class has 28 students - 8th graders. In each class, at least half of the students were put there because there was no other place to put them. They are not interested in learning Spanish, and they create real discipline problems. Sending them to the office has no effect. I feel that my time during the Spanish period is mostly wasted because I spend so much time dealing with discipline. In each class there are about a dozen students who would really like to learn Spanish. Any suggestions? I am afraid the same thing is going to happen to next year's classes.
