Re: Bilingual 1st grade

Thanks Lynne. Yes, it sounds exactly what I expect the class to
be like ... and yes, I've worked with lots of Latino children
before ... my 1st grade class this year that just finished was
HALF Latino, all pulled out to be taught math and
reading/writing with the bilingual teacher ... and that program
after two years was NOT working ... the children were NOT
learning English AT ALL...so now they're switching to the method
you describe. I know it'll be fine, and most of the kids will be
from our kindergarten so they know the school routines, rules,
special area teachers, environment, etc., and many may even know
me from playground supervision, bus dimissal, etc. And they
definitely will know the bilingual teacher ... so I'm sure it'll
be fine.
I was just looking for a board to go to when I need some help,
and I think this is it! I've been working as a TA/para in K-4
for 6 years, including spec-ed, so I know what's expected!
Thanks!
