Interesting question. I have taught all five levels. I
usually teach two levels (although some years I've taught
all five levels). I like having two levels and my preference
has always been to teach both the lowest level and the
highest level. I love teaching beginniners/newcomers because
they make such rapid progress and also because I have the
most experience with it - I know how to anticipate the
questions my students will have, I know how to meet their
needs, and the students tend to be more motivated to learn
than students who are at more advanced levels. But I also
like to balance that with teaching more advanced students
because I can get into deeper discussions with them, I can
help them get past those last barriers to fluency, and
because it helps me keep the "end-result" goal in mind with
my beginners. My advanced students help me remember what I'm
preparing my beginners for; my beginners help me remember
how far my advanced students have come. They complement each
    other nicely. :-)
But if I really had to choose just one level, though it
would be a difficult choice I think I'd choose beginners.
It's a very different kind of teaching and I enjoy it.
