I took it yesterday. It is an add-on certification for me. I am
also certified in Early Childhood Ed and I took and passed 3
praxis II exams for that certification with no problem and passed
the first time on all 3. The ESOL Praxis was a surprise--there
was a lot of linguistic info on the test that I had never seen
before. I was a tad annoyed with my graduate program that I had
not been better prepared (we briefly talked about voiced and
voiceless sounds and we did stuff with perfective and progressive
and all that but this went WAY beyond all of that.) I think I did
fairly well for going in kind of blind, but I am ready to take
the test again if needed. I would highly recommend purchasing
the downloadable book from ETS for $22. I know it is annoying
since the only reason we really have to take the exam is because
others make money from the process (and of course because of
legislators,) and we all know testing is a big money industry.
However, the sample test in the book will at least prepare you
for the test format and give you a general idea of the type of
questions. Unfortunately, the ets site kept saying I had not
purchased the downloadable book (which I knew I had when I
registered) and I could not get it to work until after I took the
test. I'm just hoping I passed and if not I will go in next time
with a much better idea of what to expect.
