Are you really an ESL teacher? having him sit next to a SMART kid
who can translate? really? And don't you think he's showing signs
of something traumatic that happened to him if he doesnt' feel safe
at school and wants to hide all day? He doesn't have any vocabulary
in his native language either? SOMETHING IS WRONG and you are doing
nothing to help him. Nothing. Do your job, get him some help, and
quit referring to the kids who have high English fluency as smart,
because that automatically means the kids with low English fluency
are NOT smart. It doesnt' matter the percentage of kids who are
ELL, that shouldn't matter squat when it comes to who needs
counseling and who doesn't. You said yourself he's a really sad
case. Do something about it.
