Julia Alvarez has a very short story called Names/Nombres.
It's been a long time since I read it but it talks about
identity and how the teacher pronounces the narrator's name
differently than how her family pronounces it. It is very
good. I couldn't find it on the web but you could find it in
an anthology in the library.
Richard Rodriguez is another author who writes about growing
up Hispanic in the US and learning English. You could find a
good excerpt from him, too.
Do you have access to any textbooks for ESL students? They
often have this type of poetry and writing.
