This is a serious issue. As black woman, I see a need for more
of us in the classrooms. Let's call it like it is, sometimes
it takes a black woman or man to deal with a black student
who's use to relating to their parents at home in a certain
way. I'll be the first to admit that some of my young black
brothers and sisters can be stubborn, unruly, rude, and hard
headed to white teachers. I know it comes from their parents
and the society point of view the the whit teachers are only
looking out for the white kids. I've been told by several
black students that they give me a higher level of respect
because of my color and because I remind them of their mom.
They say that I can relate to them much better.
