When I did, I was guaranteed to benefit from the loan forgiveness program if I worked in a poverty level district. I have been working for such a district for 12 years and I haven't gotten one bit of help. Apparantly when I consolidated, my loan was no longer considered a Perkins loan, so I didn't qualify for the program. I decided not to pay my bills, which was a mistake, and now my wages are being garnished to the point that I can't afford to by groceries for my family! Frustrated in NY!!!
