We all need to inundate Senator Graham of South Carolina with our concerns and opinions. Here is some of my message that I sent: I applied for the Teacher Forgiveness Loan, as I was told by a customer service person at Citibank that I should qualify. However, much to my surprise, just because my first loans were before October of '98 I was not eligible although I qualified in the other areas. As you can see, I will definitely be paying back during my retirement years. The above situation applies to many teachers throughout our nation. The Teacher Forgiveness Loan should not single out a particular date. If anything, it should have applied to the older loans. Most of us are in this profession because we love children and we have a desire to make a positive impact. I believe you are in the position to help change the law to include loans received before October '98. In a field where many teachers are quitting due to the increasing stress, an undue burden could be alleviated with the passing of a new Teacher Forgiveness Loan bill. Please assist us in passing a new Teacher Forgiveness Loan law. I also sent a copy to my senator (and I let Graham know). If we all do this then maybe someone will listen.
