We made applesauce in the crockpot in the classroom with
apples the students brought, and had it for afternoon snack.
I took apple cider one day and we had that at Morning Snack.
We tasted Golden Delicious, Macintosh and Granny Smith apples
another day. Apple Jack cereal was snack one day. We made a
graph, showing the entire class selection of favorite apple
dishes. We used sequence cards and plotted how apples grow
from seed to tree to fruit. We charted Johnny's trail through
Massachussetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. We created a
party for him on paper, listing what games we would play, what
we would serve, what wish he might have made, etc. We made an
apple mobile. We found a couple of cute Johnny Appleseed
songs and learned those. We saved all the seeds from all the
apples we consumed, and next week will plant them in pots on
the windowsill. There are dozens of books about John Chapman
in libraries. It was an amazing amount of fun and very
education for ALL of us!!!
