We also do Literacy Collaborative (Fouontas/Pinnell).
Unfortunately, ours take forever also. I just was able to
start reading groups 4 weeks after starting school in order
to get through all benchmarking until I found their
Instructional level. One thing I do, I never refer to their
written portion - so I skip that. Also, if they get more
than one question wrong I do not do the running record. If
they get frustration on the comprehension the whole level is
frustration so I don't even bother.
