Hi, If anyone is checking in to this chat board, and sees nothing here, please add something. If no one gets it going, it will never go.

I'm teaching 4th grade for the first time! I am planning for the kids to be reading Island of the Blue Dolphins, Esperanza Rising, Treasure Island (kid version), and possibly Matilda. I'm making questions to go with each chapter of thses books, and am going to put the questions in a plastic spiral book, so the kids will have a finished product, and not just loose papers when they are finished. What books do you study as a class when you teach 4th grade?

When I taught 4th, we did literacy units for Shiloh, Bunnicula, James and the Giant Peach, and Frindle. (Among countless others.)

It's always fun to start the year with Judy Blume's "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing."

It is a quiet board, but I do check back on occasion to see what's new. I remember 5+ years back when this place was bustling with activity.

Steve I read Bunnicula to the class last year around Halloween,
but not this year - just forgot, I guess. Yeah, the third
graers didn't love Frindle, they understood it, but didn't
get attached to it - probably a little too old for them.
Treasure Island is a kid version (Junior Classics for
young readers - about 3-4 grade reading level). ...See More

SEC4 I was thinking that I wan't seeing a lot of activity, but like you, remembered as bustling a few years back. Anyone have another site they are using? Same idea, but different place?
