Would you recommend one over another for a > newbie? The ACTFL conference would undoubtedly be excellent. (I long for the day when it's close enough to my State for me to be able to attend!) However, unless you live close to Orlando, you might prefer to start with Melissa's second suggestion of your State conference. That will be smaller but it has the advantage that the majority of teachers there will be from your State. I find that one of the best things about going to conferences is connecting with other teachers. At the State conference, you might meet people that you wll be able to link up with between conferences, rather than just once a year. With a smaller conference, it might also be easier for you to decide on which sessions to attend. Sometimes choosing can be a little overwhelming and it's difficult to decide on just one per time slot, as there are so many that look interesting! Often, conferences give you a discount for registering early, so check the deadlines for early registration, too.
