In 24 years of teaching, I have never given grades for
participation in levels 1-3. It is expected that all students
will participate.
I am using Discovering French for 10 years now. The students
are engaged every day in mini-dialogues. For these activities
and the few wrtten ones that we do in class, I am constantly
observing, walking around and keep an ear open to students
across the room.
To start class, a quick homework check of completed (to best
of student abiltiy or NOT! O or 1. (Not in class, at home,
forgot back side, didn't finish what was started in class =
zéro.) Then a review of the correct responses, either in
groups, teacher to student or teacher to class.
