Getting a German teaching position can be difficult but not
impossible. If you do not have the legal right to employment in
the US, you may want to work through an organization like the
Visiting International Faculty program - www.vifprogram.com. They
serve as sponsors for the J-visa program. It's purpose is
primarily for cultural exchange. Under the J-visa, you can work
in the US for up to three years. A few of the larger metropolitan
school districts will also sponsor international teachers for the
H1B visa, which can lead to a green card over time. If you
already have the legal right to employment in the US, then you
should probably join the AATG - American Association of Teachers
of German. They have a listserv for members, which shows vacant
positions across the US. Viel Erfolg!
