Post: We're leaving for Mayo Clinic appt on Monday morning

    Posted by MaryB on 7/05/08

Gosh, I sure hope we hear of an alternative surgery instead
of the projected shoulder replacement surgery for my
fiance. He's getting alittle nervous now and it's a good
thing we have a houseful of people. In awhile we're having
a cookout and my three daughters, one SIL, and his son and
DIL and he and I will enjoy the late afternoon/evening.
Everyone goes home tomorrow morning, then I'll trek home to
pack for the trip. His appts are on Tuesday morning and
many times they line up surgery for the next day. Don't
know how many days we'll be at the clinic and I'm nervous
about that..... I get lost easily as my directions get
mixed up and will have to get back and forth to the motel
    while he's hospitalized.
Whenever it is that he can come home, I'll be staying at
his house (25 miles north of here) and helping him for who
knows how long. Depending on the surgery, I'll have to get
him back and forth to therapy and appts, so I am out of
sorts worrying about getting home to care for the cats and
    the house and yard. (mine)
So, hopefully we'll get this all taken care of and he's on
the mend by the time I report for school. I hate having to
rely on my daughters to come take care of the cats and
    house and everything.
BTW, it's my first experience taking care of someone who's
had surgery of any kind. I guess, when he had rotator cuff
surgery six years ago, he was laid up for a month and
that's why I'm worried. He had reactions to meds and
vomited and got infections from this and that. I hope I'm
a good and patient caregiver. (I need to work on
    tolerance, ha!)
