She rang us at 2 am to ask why we weren't there to collect her. She realised almost immediately what she'd done and spent the next 5 minutes apologising, while I tried to calm her down and get back to bed.

At 3am, she rang again because she couldn't sleep because she felt so bad about disturbing us and she wanted to apologise again. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

It sounds as if she means well, but just isn't functioning well enough to act appropriately and you are paying some of the price.

mariep I wonder if she is sleeping more during the day and thus is awake at night. My MIL did this for a while when she was in the secure unit (Alzheimer's unit) at the nursing home. Several other residents did so also so I guessing that it is not uncommon.

Annise Novel, I seem to recollect that it is your SIL that insists mom stay in her home? Or is that someone else. Anyway, if it is her, then she should be the one taking the early morning calls should she not? Or maybe you should be calling her after your MIL calls you to tell her about the calls. Novel Yes, Annise, I so agree with this. She would love company - she craves it. Wish I could persuade husband, SiL and BiL to actually do something!

I think her daughter does receive some of these calls too.
