I have been thinking intensely about leaving teaching, for the first time. In the last three years of a 31 year career, I have had two serious allegations made against me by students. The last one has been recently sorted out. Both have been proved groundless BUT I have been through hell waiting for the resolution. It seems the students have all the protection and the teachers have little if any. I have cried and railed in private, been magnanimous and calm in public. I am rung out. How much more can I take? How many other accusations will there be? How much more documenting and administration can there be? Is it worth the stress of continuing? Is it worth being hard up to just be out of the system?

jme Novel, I am sorry you're dealing with all this. I haven't had to deal with accusations, but I do understand how you feel (I think) and would retire right now if I could afford to. We don't teach any longer, we need to document. I miss the way I used to feel about teaching.
