I retired in the Spring of 2015. Last year I subbed, taking a long term sub job in the spring that lasted 3 1/2 months. I swore I would never do another long term sub job. I started subbing this fall, then took almost 6 weeks off for a total knee replacement. During that time a friend asked me to take her FMLA leave. I said I would. Before it started I heard inklings about a .5 special Ed position in the same school, my old school. I told my friend about it. Well, I subbed for 2 weeks and was then hired for the .5 position. I start week 3 in that position tomorrow and am loving it. There is something I am missing about how to retire, I think. Kathy
mmp Kathy maybe you are missing that it was time to end full time teaching and switch to teaching part time. Glad you are enjoying your time.

Flacka Retirement is whatever you want it to be. I retired when you did and last year I subbed for my replacement when she was on maternity leave. By the end of the first day I knew that I made the right decision when I decided to retire and I never looked back. As long as you are happy, then it's right for you.

Elaine/ret/IN Bet those half days "off" are pretty darn sweet, and I'll bet your school is ever so delighted with your role.

Enjoy.

Kathy I love going to work after school has started and leaving well before it ends. I also love being with my old coworker's and friends. I have made a new friend in one of the third grade teachers, too. One of the second grade teachers and I are going to start going to the gym together, though I need to tell her that going to an Italian restaurant afte...See More

Cher Good for you! We all "adapt" in whatever way we feel necessary. I retired in 2005 and never looked back and don't miss it one bit. I have 4 grands, 2 sons and 2 DILs and a lot of fun going on. I wish you the same in whatever you do! xoxo
