It can be a great career if you take it seriously. Be prepared to study a lot of science (Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Exercise science, just to name a few). Then you must be proficient in all sports as well as fitness and games. You must know all the rules for major sports and be able to coach/demonstrate a wide variey of athletic skills. You will aslo have to take a number of classes that will develop teaching skills as well as overall education classes. When you graduate, plan on getting a master's degree as most school districts require one now. It is a very hard field to get started in as well, because there are a lot of people who want the job and are qualified and there just aren't many jobs in each school district. Maybe two or three at a large high school, usually just one at a typical elementary school and somewhere in between in a average middle school. Be prepared to move to where the jobs are.
