It seems other teachers on my campus always have knowledge of things kids at our school are doing, both good and bad. I am usually in the dark however and I have realized that a lot of teachers ask kids about their social lives and/or the kids feel comfortable sharing. I tend to keep a formal distance, concerning myself mainly with my teaching, though I hope kids find me approachable enough to be considered pleasant. I am really more of a college teacher, where many of my female colleagues are closer to elementary and middle school in their teaching styles.

I think it may be more common for women teachers to relate with students where personal matters are shared, but I'm not sure. I have no real interest in these kids' lives outside of school, I just assume their lives are mostly messed up. Why do I need to know the details? That's the parents' problem. I'm interested to hear thoughts on the subject from other teachers.

Most non-college teachers are females? Non-college? Neither the vocabulary or the claim are correct. ...See More

are they comfortable What are you talking about? You've really gone off the tracks here.

Nan Sometimes the teacher literally asks for it.

"When you are done with your assignment, you can make me a birthday card. Here are all the supplies you need."

One teacher I know follows kids around and says "where's my senior picture?" or "where's my invite to your grade party."

He gets a lot more picture and invites than I ...See More
