Dentists don't work on clean teeth; teachers don't teach perfect students. You have to consider if you like the challenge of getting a wannabe gangsta to open up to a new world that only you can open him or her up to. That is why I like teaching. I don't love history; I love teaching history. Being a sub IS totally different. Try observing teachers and how they interact with their students. Don't rule out teaching because of how the students treat the sub. When you get your own class, everything will be different. There is plenty of room for different personalities in teaching. If you are the introverted, dry sense of humor type, that's fine as long as you are comfortable with it. As long as you can learn by your second year to deal with disruptive students and you keep your chin high, the students will like you. Students like all kinds of teachers, except the pushovers.
