Three? Where do you teach,Utopia? In an "urban" school like mine, half (or more) of any class will be just like those three kids, and they start deteriorating in October, not April. Clearly, your school is not bad at all. Count your blessings you got into a district like this. Unless they do something really bad, I suggest you don't tell the principal. By really bad, I mean cursing you out, sexual harassment of you or a student, or endangering somebody. If need be, focus more on busy type of work, especially if they have to graph or color something. The concentration may calm them down a bit. I had to stop all group work with my worst class because of their behavior. If they fail, they fail. Make sure everything is documented though, in case you have to call their parents.
