Post: New Schedule/No Prep Time/HELP!
Posted by R on 8/24/08
Our school just switched from A/B day 4x4 block to the
traditional 7-period day, and I am having difficulty
adjusting to my work load. I have prep 7th hour, so it
isn't in the middle of the day to save me if I can't get
prepped for all classes in the morning. I pretty much am
trying to prep for all 7 classes 7th hour, but I am
finding myself stuck at school doing this until dark every
night. This is my 4th year teaching, and this last week
was the first week back. I was super organized last year,
was able to be home by 4, and the times I did stay later I
was enjoying every moment of it. I really want to be able
to do that again. I have always taught Spanish 1 and 2,
and this year I am teaching 3 as well. I'm not quite up
to par in fluency, Spanish 2 is easy to teach, but I have
mostly Hispanic kids in 3, and they are sweet, but I don't
know half of what they are saying when they speak in
Spanish-they have not caught on yet, I am an excellent
bluffer and "gist" getter. So I think if it wasn't for
the 3 class, I would be more organized, however, I want to
do my best for the kids and for my department. I just
don't want to let anyone down. I am going to talk to my
co-workers this week and see if they can help, but I
wondered if you all may have suggestions of how to get the
most out of the 7 period day, or even the advanced class.
I just feel so ashamed because I know I am an awesome
teacher for 1 and 2. :-( Any ideas?
