How big is the group? I would readily take a classful but
not 100 kids.
Is the route on relatively level ground (no steep ups and
downs)?
Are there any public transport lines? (How do students get
to school? Our HS students use public transport so they
already have the bus pass) I think it would take about 2 bus
stations to cover a mile.
Where is the route situated? Are there walkers' paths along
the road? (In our area I can only envision the city streets,
which have public transport available, and countryside with
only the road and no sidewalk and you would have to walk on
bumpy grass tussocks along the road)
Are students used to walking and exercise? If they have
problems getting up the stairs at school, they are probably
not good walkers.
All in all, I would take them, but we would keep the group
together so the fast ones would not already be there while
the other ones would be half-way through. Be careful that
they take their medicine. Make periodic stops to marvel at
nature and the slower kids will catch up with the rest.
