Re: Teaching the same class five times a day
    Posted by Tom on 9/04/08

    Alex,

I agree wholeheartedly with the poster who advocated
teaching students rather than subjects. Yes!

In that vein, I would strongly recommend that you use
student-centered teaching as much as possible. And if you
combine that with assignments that will encourage all
learning modalities to engage, you will REALLY be offering
    some gold to your students!

So, yes, if I were lecturing for five periods a day, or
doing the old "Anybody know the answer I want?" during a
class 'discussion' five periods a day, I would be bored out
of my gourd. But the students would be bored as well!!

Mix it up -- short lectures, small groups, projects,
    presentations, student-directed films, movies, student-led
discussions, debates, et cetera. The sky is the limit in a
student-centered classroom, and it's SO MUCH MORE ENGAGING
    for you and the kids!

    All my best,

    Tom
