Re: Year round high schools. Great Ideas, where wanted

It is a great idea and should always be available as an option
in most districts. The loss of skills and knowledge over the
summer is very significant. Only 3 per cent of the population
produce all the food in North America. So the old farming
schedule is totally obsolete for most kids. And the old
industrial model of offices and 9 to 5 jobs is obsolete for many
parents. It should be an option in each district, especially in
urban districts where kids, poverty, few community and parental
resources make a two month summer a recipe for disaster. I teach
kids in a large Canadian city and many of our students go to
summer schools and classes voluntarily since they are free, or
almost free, and they do not have parents with money for camps,
etc. It is also a way to even out the ups and downs of the year.
